I remember hearing tales of my grandfather hunting for birds and game to feed his family during the 1930s. I remember the crows standing on the rooftops of my home village, on the cross on top of the church. The hands reaching out for the crows in these oil paintings could be trying to capture the birds or release them. Each painting starts with these ideas, before the act of painting leads them into different variations of shape and colour.
